A special highlight of the project was the donation of “Mudilla” plants (Barringtonia Asiatica) by District Environmental Chairperson Lion Asanka, which were planted along the beach.
Why is this important?
• Preventing Coastal Erosion: Mudilla plants have strong root systems that help bind the sand, protecting the beach from erosion caused by waves and wind.
• Environmental Protection: These plants act as natural barriers, reducing the impact of high tides and storm surges.
• Biodiversity: They provide shade and shelter for coastal wildlife and help improve the overall ecosystem.
• Sustainability: Planting native species like Barringtonia Asiatica ensures long-term survival and strengthens natural coastal defenses.
This initiative combined community service, youth participation, and environmental conservation, making it a remarkable step towards preserving our beaches for future generations.
