Report on Katharagama Project Lions Club of Udahamulla The Lions Club of Udahamulla successfully carried out the Katharagama Project on 25th January 2026 at Abhinawaramaya, Katharagama. During this project, lunch was provided to over 1,600 Dhamma School students, and nearly 100 parents also joined the meal, making a total of approximately 1,700 beneficiaries. The lunch was prepared using the following items: 150 kg of rice, 50 kg of dhal, 100 kg of potatoes, 50 kg of big onions, 15 kg of soya meat, 4 kg of sprats, 100 coconuts, 8 kg of garlic, 10 litres of coconut oil, along with spices, peanuts, and plantains. Rubber slippers were also provided for the kitchen helper staff of the temple. The total value of the lunch was calculated at Rs. 300 per person, amounting to Rs. 510,000/- for approximately 1,700 people. Furthermore, expenses incurred for transport, lodging, and meals for club members for two days amounted to Rs. 240,000/-. As part of the project, 150 dry ration packs were distributed among underprivileged families in flood-affected areas and poor staff members of the Katharagama Devalaya. Each dry ration pack included rice, dhal, potatoes, sprats, and sugar. The cost of one dry ration pack was Rs. 2,000/-, and the total value of the dry ration distribution amounted to Rs. 300,000/-. The project was chaired by Lion Sunil Magammana. All club members and well-wishers contributed generously to make this meaningful project a great success. A total of 18 Lions Club members and 10 non-Lion family members actively participated in the project. The total cost of the project was Rs. 1,050,000/-. All the members helped to collect food and dry rations. This was a two-day project. We traveled to Katharagama on 24th January at 6.00 a.m. and returned to Colombo on 25th January at 8.00 p.m. The Lions Club of Udahamulla is proud to have successfully completed this valuable community service project, reaffirming its commitment to serving the community and those in need.
