1. Project Overview & Objectives "Danumata Athwalak" was conceptualized by the Leo Lions Club of Colombo Uptown Eminence (LLCCUE) to address the critical issue of educational inequity. The primary objective was to support underprivileged students by providing them with essential stationery items they lacked, thereby removing practical barriers to effective learning. The initiative was designed to promote equal educational opportunities, encourage consistent school attendance, and foster a sense of empowerment among the beneficiaries.
2. Execution & Activities The project was executed at Sri Sangaraja Central College, creating a direct and impactful connection with the local education community. The core activity involved the distribution of a curated set of school supplies tailored to the students' academic needs. The distributed items included:
- Notebooks
- Pens, pencils, and erasers
- Rulers and sharpeners
- Folders and paper
Club members were actively present to organize and distribute these resources, ensuring a smooth and engaging process for the students.
3. Leadership & Dignitaries The event was honored by the presence of the District Governor of District 306 D7, Lion Gaya Upasena, as the Chief Guest. His presence provided significant encouragement to the club members and served as a recognition of the club’s commitment to community welfare. The active participation of district leaders helped strengthen the bond between the youth volunteers and the wider Lions community.
4. Outcome & Impact The project successfully demonstrated a tangible contribution to the education of the children at Sri Sangaraja Central College. By equipping these students with essential learning tools, the club helped foster confidence and brighter academic prospects for the recipients. Furthermore, the initiative enhanced the visibility of LLCCUE across community networks and reinforced the club’s culture of social responsibility.
5. Alignment with Values "Danumata Athwalak" stood as a clear manifestation of the club’s motto: "Lead. Serve. Uplift." It aligned perfectly with the core Leo values by providing Leadership opportunities for youth in planning and execution, delivering direct Service through material support, and creating Opportunity for students to access better education.
