1. Project Overview & Objectives
"Project Feed Hope Phase I" was conceptualized by the Leo Lions Club of Colombo Uptown Eminence to address the pressing issue of animal welfare in urban environments. The primary objective was to support a diverse population of neglected street animals—including stray dogs, cats, urban birds, and other vulnerable wildlife—by providing them with high-quality, nutritious meals, thereby alleviating their daily struggle for survival. The initiative was designed to promote compassion, raise awareness about the ethical treatment of all urban animals, and foster a sense of empathetic responsibility among the club’s youth volunteers.
2. Execution & Activities
The project was executed on March 8, 2026, across targeted public sectors within the Colombo area, creating a direct impact on the local urban ecosystem. The core activity involved the procurement, preparation, and direct distribution of food tailored to the varied dietary needs of the local animal population. The process included:
- Sourcing and preparing fresh, safe food suitable for dogs, cats, and birds.
- Mapping out high-density areas for mixed stray animal populations in Colombo.
- Mobilizing teams for hands-on, on-the-street distribution.
Club members actively patrolled these areas to locate and feed the animals, ensuring a smooth, safe, and deeply engaged process for both the volunteers and the local wildlife.
4. Outcome & Impact
The project successfully demonstrated a tangible contribution to broader animal welfare in the Colombo area. By equipping volunteers to directly combat hunger across multiple species, the club provided immediate nutritional relief to a wide variety of voiceless animals within the urban ecosystem. Furthermore, the initiative enhanced the visibility of the club's diverse service capabilities across community networks, proved the logistical efficiency of its members in adapting to different animal needs, and reinforced a culture of holistic social responsibility.
